MEET THE SPEAKERS

Dr H.M Alhassan obtained a B.Sc in Microbiology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 1999. He later proceeded to the School of Medical Laboratory Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State to obtain the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) certification as a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist (Virology specialty) in 2005. He obtained M.Sc. in Microbiology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 2011 and a Ph.D. in Medical and Molecular Immunology from the Prestigious Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran(IRI), in 2017. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medical Immunology in the Department of Immunology, School of Medical Laboratory science, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto

Dr. Alhassan Hussaini has won several awards. He got the Golden Student Tuition Fees Scholarship of Ministry of Science and Technology, Islamic Republic of Iran in 2014 – 2018 and a Ph.D. Dissertation Scholarship of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) between 2015-2017. He is a beneficiary of the TETFUND research grant, for 2019/2020 as well as 2021-2022. 

HM Alhassan have over 51 peer-reviewed articles in Internationally recognised Journals and has supervised 50 undergraduate students, 17 M.Sc. students, and 5 Ph.D. Students whose research is ongoing. He was the pioneer head of the Department of Immunology in his university between 2009-2013, and from 2022 till date. His research interests are in cancer immunology, immunotherapy, cell and gene therapy and inflammatory processes. He is currently into research on drugs and vaccine formulations for breast cancer treatment and management. He is a member, African Society for Laboratory Medicine and also a member of the Nigerian Society for Immunology.

Dr. AlHassan is happily married with children.

Professor Oyeyinka obtained Ph.D. in Immunology degree in 1994 at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He was a Master of Science graduate of the University of Benin, Benin-city, Nigeria; and an Associate of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology since 1975. 

He was a beneficiary of World Bank/ National Universities Commission Staff Development Fellowship to WHO Collaboration Center for Immunological Reagents, The Medical School, University of Birmingham, England in 1994. He was a Visiting Scholar to the Department of Chemical Pathology, University of Ghana Medical School, Accra, Ghana in year 2000. 

Professor Oyeyinka was first appointed Lecturer in Immunology in 1986 by the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and later moved to the University of Ilorin where he became Professor in 2005, and retired in the year 2020. He was inaugurated Member, Nigeria National Task Force on Poliovirus Containment in 2015. 

Before his retirement, he was the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Science, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria

Professor Oyeyinka had once served as the treasurer of the Nigerian Society for Immunology

Pa Tamba Ngom obtained his PhD immunology from the Imperial College London. He is the president of Federation of African Immunological Societies (FAIS) for the period August 2021 to December 2024.

His vast of experience cuts across all aspects of immunology, including: setting up a Nutrition Immunology laboratory for the UK Medical research council in The Gambia, and conducting research to enhance collaboration between malnutrition and infectious disease programs. He also led in the development of the Defenses Reference Laboratory (DRL) in Abuja, Nigeria as Associate Director, as part of a collaborative partnership between the US Department of Defense Walter Reed Program Nigeria (WRPN) and the Nigerian Ministry of Defense (NMOD).

Following his work in Nigeria, he served as a contractor in roles including, Resident Laboratory Advisor based in Cairo, for the East Mediterranean and Middle East Region, serving CDC Global Disease Detection and Prevention Laboratory Programs, which supported the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the Royal Medical Services of Jordan and other stake holders. He also served in Academia with the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and in Biotechnology as Director of R&D Laboratory Quality Assurance. He is a subject matter expert (SME) for Quality Assurance and regulatory compliance, and provide consultancy for private and public institutions working in research and clinical trials projects.

His passion is in supporting the advancement of Immunology, Science and Technology in Africa and globally, through training, mentoring and supervision.
